The history of Czech settlers in Louisiana starts in the 1850's. The first record of Czech immigrants in Louisiana appeared in New Orleans. It is not surprising that the first Czech immigrants arrived through New Orleans, being the largest port in south in the 1800's. The Czechs established there own little quarter known as Bohemia in the greater New Orleans area.

The immigration of Czechs into Louisiana not only occurred in New Orleans, but also in the towns of Libuse and Kolin. These towns were established by Czech settlers in 1914 in the attempt to create a Czech community for their families. These two communities are located a few miles east of Alexandria, in the central part of the state.

Please explore this site to learn more about the early Czech immigrants to Louisiana.
